Baseball wins at Trinity International 7-3
Wheeling, IL - The Calumet College Baseball team traveled to play Trinity International for their first conference match-up of the week. The Crimson Wave started off strong against the Trojans, scoring 5 runs and batting around the lineup all in the 1st inning. The Wave held TIU to just three runs through 8 innings and then scored an additional two runs in the top of the 9th innings to secure their 7-3 win and 3rd CCAC win of the season.
Sean Moore led off the 1st inning for the Wave with a triple to center and was scored by Gabriel Quniones' RBI. Following Moore's run scored, Nicholas Anderson walked and Michael Machnic singled. Bubba Davenport put pressure on the TIU defense and reached on an error while scoring Anderson. With bases loaded, Idan Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored Machnic for the 3rd run of the game. Cody Wilkens kept the inning going with a single to left field that scored Davenport and moved Sergio Olivares to third base just in time for a passed ball to score Olivares and bring their lead to 5 going into the bottom of the 1st inning.
Zach Zborowski started on the mound for the Crimson Wave and went a full 6 innings for the Wave with 4 strikeouts, and gave up 3 walks, 2 hits, and 2 runs. The Crimson Wave defense backed up Zborowski to help hold their lead, only giving up 1 error throughout the 9 innings. In the 7th inning, Gerardo Hernandez went to the mound for Zborowski and finished the game out with 3 strikeouts and gave up 2 walks, 2 hits, and 1 run. The Trojan defense held the Crimson Wave till the 9th inning, Davenport led off with a single and was followed up by a single from Olivares. Wilkens hit a double that scored both Davenport and Olivares to bring the Wave's lead to 7 and secure their 7-3 win over the Trojans.
Davenport led the Crimson Wave at the plate, going 3-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Olivares was also hard to beat, going 3-5 with 2 runs scored. Cody Wilkens was an RBI machine, going 2-4 with a walk and 3 RBIs.
The Crimson Wave is now 3-9 in CCAC play and travel to St. Ambrose on Friday for their next matchup.
