Baseball defeats Trinity Christian 13-8
Whiting, IN - The Calumet College Baseball team hosted Trinity Chrisitan in a rescheduled matchup for the Crimson Wave. The Trolls had previously beat the Wave in the doubleheader on April 1st and the Wave were coming off of a doubleheader defeat from St. Ambrose on Sunday. The Crimson Wave kept their bats alive throughout the game, outhitting the Trolls with 14 hits, and that gave them the fighting chance they needed to walk away with a win. Combined with a strong offense, the Wave defense had just 5 errors to hold the Trolls off and win the game 13-8.
The Wave started the game off strong, Freshman Sean Moore hit a leadoff Homerun in the 1st inning to give them a 1-0 lead. Senior Michael Rios started on the mound for the Wave and went 4 innings for the Wave, allowing just 2 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks, and getting 3 strikeouts. In the 2nd inning, the Crimson Wave took a commanding lead as the Wave got bases loaded with just one out and kept the inning going with a walk RBI from Moore, a single RBI from Nicholas Anderson, a walk RBI from Michael Machnic, an HBP RBI from Gabriel Quinones, a single RBI from Sergio Olivares, and an RBI from Bubba Davenport to bring the Wave's lead to 7-0.
In the 4th inning, the Trolls scored their first run of the game. Moore went to the mound for Rios and the Trolls scored four in the 5th inning to cut the Wave's lead down 7-5 going into the 6th inning. The Crimson Wave scored again in the 7th inning off a Machnic single RBI to bring their lead up to 8-5, but the Trolls countered by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th, Gerardo Hernandez went to pitch, and the Trolls tied the game up 8-8.
The Crimson Wave started the 9th inning off with a leadoff triple and a single RBI from Anderson gave the Wave the lead again, but they didn't stop there. A triple from Quinones scored Machnic, an error by the Trolls scored Quinones, a stolen base by Maurey Garrett Jr. lead to Christopher Pantaleon scoring, and a single from Cody Wilkins scored Garrett to give the Wave a 13-8 lead going into the bottom of the 9th inning. Anthony Rivera went to the mound for Hernandez to close out the game as the Wave earned their 4th CCAC win of the season 13-8 over Trinity Christian. Moore led the Crimson Wave offensively, going 3-5 with 2 RBIs, 1 walk, a triple, an HR, a stolen base, and 4 runs scored.
