Baseball sweeps Lincoln in doubleheader
Lincoln, IL - The Calumet College Baseball team traveled to Lincoln College to start their week of conference play. The Crimson Wave swept the Lynx in two 7-inning contests, getting big wins in Game 1 19-4, and 16-5 in Game 2.
Game 1 - CCSJ 19, Lincoln 4
Zach Zborowski started on the mound for the Crimson wave, going to distance and pitching a full 7 innings with 9 strikeouts giving up 5 walks, 5 hits, and 2 earned runs.
The Crimson Wave offense started of strong in the 1st inning, after the top of the lineup loaded the bases, Gabriel Quinones hit a Grand Slam to give the Wave a quick 4-run lead. CCSJ scored another 2 runs off of a double from Maurey Garrett Jr. In the top of the 3rd inning, the Wave scored 1 run off an RBI from Cody Wilkins to bring their lead to 7-2. In the top of the 4th inning, the Crimson Wave scored again on an RBI from Bubba Davenport, an RBI double from Garrett Jr., 2 RBI single from Sean Moore, and a 2 RBI double from Michael Machnic to make their lead 13-2.
In the top of the 6th inning, the Wave scored again off a single RBI from Nicholas Anderson, a 2 RBI single from Davenport, an RBI from Sergio Olivares, and an RBI double from Colton Nott. In the top of the 7th and final inning, the Wave scored their 19th run on a single RBI from Austin Velasquez to win the game 19-4.
Sean Moore went 4-5 with 2 RBIs and a walk, Maurey Garrett, Jr. went 3-4 with 3 RBIs, a double, and a walk, Gabriel Quinones went 2-3 with 4 RBIs, a triple, a Homerun, and a walk.
Game 2 - CCSJ 16, Lincoln 5
Max Everaert started on the mound for the Crimson Wave going 2 innings with 3 strikeouts, 3 walks, and 4 earned runs.
The Wave started scoring in the top of the 1st inning with a single RBI from Machnic, a single RBI from Olivares, Quinones scored on a passed ball, Davenport scored on an error by the Lynx, an RBI single from Nott, and an RBI triple from Garrett, Jr. to bring the Wave's lead 6-0 in the 1st. Lincoln College also scored in the 1st inning, but the Wave held them at just 4 to maintain their lead going into the 2nd inning. Gerardo Hernandez went to the mound for Everaert in the 3rd inning, going 5 innings with 5 strikeouts, 1 walk, and 1 earned run.
The Crimson Wave's bats were silenced until the top of the 4th inning when a 2 RBI double from Davenport put the Wave ahead 8-4 going into the bottom of the 4th inning. The Lynx scored 1 run in the bottom of the 4th inning to bring the Wave's lead to 8-5, but in the top of the 5th inning, the Wave continued to increase their lead over Lincoln. Nott started the inning with a walk and scored on Fielder's Choice from Garrett, Jr., Anderson also reached on a Fielder's Choice and scored Garrett, Jr., and Mechanic hit a 2-run Homerun to bring the lead to 12-5. In the top of the 6th inning, Davenport scored when Joseph Castillo stole 2nd and forced the Lynx error. In the 7th and final inning, the Wave scored 3 more runs off a 2-run RBI from Xavier Sancehz and a single RBI from Nott to bring the Crimson Wave's win over the Lynx to 16-5.
Davenport went 3-4 with 2 RBIs, a double, a triple, and a walk. Machanic went 3-5 with 3 RBIs, a double, and a Homerun. Nott went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a walk.
