Baseball wins final game of St. Ambrose series
Davenport, IA - The Calumet College Baseball team traveled to St. Ambrose for their final game of the conference series. The Crimson Wave were down 0-2 in the series but after a big offensive outing, the Wave took down the Fighting Bees 7-6 in 9-innings.
Marc Cervantes started on the mound for the Wave, going 5 innings with 4 strikeouts and giving up 4 earned runs, 4 hits, 1 walk, and 1 HBP. The Crimson Wave were the first to score getting 2 in the top of the 2nd inning off an RBI from Cody Wilkens and a single RBI from Maurey Garrett, Jr to give the Wave a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Fighting Bees scored 4 to take the lead over the Wave 4-2.
The Crimson Wave fought back in the top of the 6th inning, scoring another 2 runs off an RBI from Wilkins and a sac fly RBI from Garrett, Jr to tie the game at 4-4 going into the bottom of the 6th. Zachary Costello went to the mound for Cervantes, but after a walk and hit Gerardo Hernadez went to the mound. St. Ambrose scored just 1 run in the bottom of the 6th inning to take the lead 5-4 going into the 7th but scored again in the bottom of the 7th to extend their lead over the Wave to 6-4.
The Crimson Wave stepped it up in the top of the 8th inning with a leadoff single from Wilkins and a double from Colton Nott to put 2 runners in scoring position. Garrett, Jr singled to score Wilkins and Sean Moore hit a sac fly RBI to score Joseph Casillo from third. Michael Machnic singled to center and scored Garrett, Jr to bring the Wave's lead to 7-6. Moore went to the mound in the bottom of the 8th to finish the game, getting 2 strikeouts and allowing 3 hits with 2 HBP, but helped secure the Crimson Wave's win over St. Ambrose.
Bubba Davenport led the Wave going 4-5 with a strikeout, Wilkins went 3-5 with an RBI, and Garrett, Jr went 2-3 with 3 RBIs and a sac fly.
The Crimson Wave's next game is on Saturday as they travel to Judson to play a doubleheader but will be the Home team.
