Crimson Wave Baseball earns 3rd win in a row in doubleheader sweep over Judson
Elgin, Ill - The Calumet College Baseball team traveled to Judson University for the first two games of the series. The Crimson Wave were coming off a big win against St. Ambrose and are still on the hunt to secure a spot in the CCAC Baseball tournament. The Wave took game one over the Eagles with a 3-0 win in 7-innings and won game two 7-6 in 9-innings.
Game One: CCSJ 3, Judson 0
The Crimson Wave sent out Zach Zborowski to start game one. The left-hander pitched the full 7 innings for the Wave and gave up only 3 hits, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts. The Crimson Wave had Zborowski's back in the field, only having one error throughout the game and holding the Eagles' offense from scoring.
In the 3rd inning, the Wave had a 2-out rally starting with a single from Nicholas Anderson, followed by a single from Michael Machnic, and then a walk from Gabriel Quinones. With 2-outs and bases loaded, Bubba Davenport hit a double to right-center to clear the bases and put the Wave ahead 3-0. The Crimson Wave had 9 total hits throughout the game but only scored those 3 runs and defeated Judson 3-0 after 7 innings.
Leading the Crimson Wave, Davenport was 3-3 with 3 RBIs and Machnic was 2-3 at the plate.
Game Two: CCSJ 7, Judson 6
Michael Rios started on the mound for game two for the Crimson Wave. Rios went 3.1 innings for the Wave surrendering 4 runs on 6 hits and struck out four batters. Maxwell Everaert also pitched 3.1 innings, giving up 2 runs off 4 hits, and also struck out four batters. Anthony Rivera finished the game for the Wave going 2.1 innings, giving up no hits or runs, and striking out one batter.
Judson started the game off by scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning off of Rios. The Crimson Wave started to chip away in the bottom of the 1st inning scoring 1 run off a double from Quinones. The Wave scored again in the 5th inning from Quinones' solo Homerun, a single RBI from Cody Wilkins, and Colton Nott's RBI off an Eagles error to tie the game 4-4. In the 6th inning, the Crimson Wave took the lead 5-4 after a double from Machnic scored 1 run.
The Eagles began their comeback in the top of the 7th inning, scoring 2 runs and taking the lead 6-5. The Wave tied the game again in the bottom of the 8th inning after CCSJ had bases loaded and Davenport was hit by a pitch to score a run and tie the game 6-6. In the bottom of the 9th inning, the Crimson Wave won the game 7-6 after a 2 outs bases-loaded single from Machnic scored the Wave's winning run to sweep the Eagles.
Sean Moore led the Wave at the plate in game two, going 3-4 with 2 walks, 3 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases. Machnic went 3-5 with 2 RBIs, a double, and a stolen base. Quinones went 2-4 with a home run, a double, 2 RBIs, and a walk.
The Crimson Wave faces the Eagles again on Monday, April 25th for the final game of the series in Elgin at 2 PM with their final home games and Senior Day against Trinity International on Wednesday, April 27th.
