Baseball sweeps Trinity International for Senior Day
Whiting, IN - The Calumet College Baseball team hosted Trinity International for the final doubleheader of their series and to celebrate their 10 Senior student-athletes. The Crimson Wave were coming into the doubleheader with one win over the Trojans and looking to continue their three-game win streak. The Wave played a tough game one, coming back in the bottom of the 7th inning with a walk off 5-4 win. Using their momentum from game one, the Crimson Wave secured a game two 6-1 win over the Trojans and extended their win streak to 5.
Game One: CCSJ 5, TIU 4 (7-innings)
Junior, Zach Zborowski, started on the mound for the Crimson Wave going 6 innings with 7 strikeouts, allowing 2 runs off 4 hits and 3 walks.
The Crimson Wave scored first, scoring one run in the bottom of the 2nd innings after the Wave had bases loaded and a sac fly from Sophomore Colton Nott scored the first run of the game. The score remained 1-0 until the top of the 6th inning as the Trojans scored 2 runs to take the lead 2-1. The Wave tied it up in the bottom of the 2nd inning off another sac fly RBI from Colton Nott to bring the score to 2-2 going into the 7th inning.
In the top of the 7th inning, Junior Gerardo Hernandez went to the mound for Zborowski and completed the final inning giving up 2 hits, 1 earned run, and a walk. The Trojans scored two runs in the top of the 7th inning after a throwing error from the Crimson Wave to take a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Crimson Wave began their comeback after a 2-run RBI from Senior Nicholas Anderson that tied the game. After 2 outs, the Crimson Wave still had two runners on and in scoring position. Senior Sergio Olivares hit a hard ground ball to 3rd base that the Trojans couldn't field cleanly, allowing Anderson to score from 3rd and win game one 5-4.
Game Two: CCSJ 6, TIU 1
Senior Michael Rios started on the mound for the Wave in game two, going 3 innings with 3 strikeouts and allowing 4 walks and 1 earned run off of 4 hits.
The Crimson Wave started off the bottom of the 1st inning scoring 3 runs off of a single RBI from Senior Gabriel Quinones, a wild pitch scored Senior Michael Machnic, and a single RBI from Colton Nott to bring the score to 3-0. In the top of the 3rd inning, the Trojans hit a solo Homerun that brought the score to 3-1.
In the top of the 4th inning, Junior Maxwell Everaert went to the mound for the Crimson Wave, pitching for 6 innings with 5 strikeouts and allowing 4 walks and just 2 hits. The Crimson Wave scored again in the bottom of the 4th inning after a bases-loaded walk for Anderson scored the 4th Wave run of the game. TIU held the Wave until the bottom of the 8th inning after a two-out single RBI from Freshman Sean Moore and a triple RBI from Anderson scored two and brought the Crimson Wave to lead to 6-1.
Anderson was 4-7 on the day with 4 RBIs, a walk, a triple, and a stolen base. Nott was 2-4 with 3 RBIs and a double.
The Crimson Wave celebrated the collegiate careers of 10 seniors on Wednesday and congratulated them on their upcoming graduations!
