Crimson Wave Baseball bounces back to earn first-game win over St. Xavier
Chicago, IL - After a tough loss on Tuesday to Trinity Chrisitan, the Calumet College Baseball team bounced back to win the series' first game against St. Xavier 7-4.
William LePretre, Jr. got the start on the mound and win after 6 innings of work, striking out 3 and giving up 5 hits.
The Crimson Wave were the first to score in the top of the 3rd inning off a single RBI from Sean Moore to score Julian Santoyo.
In the top of the 4th inning, the Wave scored 3 more runs after Nino Barbosa walked with the bases loaded and Moore hit a 2 RBI single up the middle, extending CCSJ's lead to 4-0.
The top of the 5th inning, Andrew Davenport grounded out to the shortstop with bases loaded but score Michael Machnic to score the 5th run of the game.
CCSJ scored their final runs of the game in the top of the 6th inning off an RBI sacrifice fly to center field from Darrius Little and a single RBI from Machnic, bringing the Wave's lead to 7-0.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Jorge Santos went to the mound in relief of Pretre. A leadoff walk and error came back to bite CCSJ after a 2-out single down the 3rd baseline scored 2 for the Cougars, cutting their lead to 7-2.
Julian Santoyo went to the mound in the bottom of the 8th inning, giving up 3 hits and 2 earned runs, giving St. Xavier hope to stay in the game with the score at 7-4.
Santoyo started the 9th inning on the mound, but after an out and a walk, Davenport finished on the mound for the Crimson Wave and earned the save. The Crimson Wave got the final 2 outs of the inning, despite a 2-out single, to finish the day with the 7-4 win.
Moore led the Wave at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and Barbosa was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and a walk.

The Crimson Wave will play the doubleheader of the St. Xavier series at Oil City Stadium in Whiting on Sunday with a 3:00 PM start.
