Crimson Wave Baseball picks up three wins against UHSP in two-day series
After splitting a doubleheader against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy on Friday, February 23, the CCSJ baseball team swept UHSP in a doubleheader on Saturday at the Harris-Stowe State University Stars Park. The Wave were led by its pitchers at the mound as Bobby Nowak threw 13 strike outs in the 2-1 win in Game 1 and Zack Zborowski struck out nine in the 8-2 win in Game 2.

St. Louis, MO – After splitting a doubleheader with UHSP on Friday, February 23, the Calumet College of St. Joseph baseball team swept UHSP in a doubleheader Saturday at the Harris-Stowe State University Stars Park. CCSJ won Game 1, 2-1, and Game 2, 8-2. Pitchers Bobby Nowak and Zack Zborowski threw a combined 22 strikeouts on the day.
Game 1: CCSJ 2, UHSP 1
In Game 1, the Crimson Wave went up 2-0 in the second inning after a Blaze Cano base hit brought Josef Selby and Michael Machnic home. CCSJ had an error in the infield in the bottom of the third inning that helped UHSP score one run, but managed to keep them scoreless the remainder of the game.
Bobby Nowak picked up his first win of the season on the mound as he pitched five innings, surrendered three hits and struck out 13 batters. In innings two, three and five, all three outs were strikeouts. Cano had two hits in the win, while Machnic and Nicholas Anderson had one hit each.
Game 2: CCSJ 8, UHSP 2
In the second game, Calumet College got off to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. With one out, Michael Machnic doubled to right field, bringing Blaze Cano and Darrius Little home. With two outs, Tyler Brody doubled to left field, giving Machnic enough time to make his way home.
At the top of the second inning, Cano's base hit allowed Nino Barbosa to score. At the top of the third, Gio Pappas base hit brought Nicholas Anderson home and extended the Crimson Wave's lead to five.
UHSP scored two runs in the bottom of the third, but CCSJ would later answer back with three runs in the seventh. Even though the Wave recorded 14 hits, it was the defense that only gave up six hits and held UHSP to six scoreless innings.
Cano lead Calumet College with four hits while Little and Brody had three hits each. Pappas chipped in with two hits and Machnic had two RBIs. Zack Zborowski picked up the win at the mound, pitching all seven innings and throwing 102 times. In 30 batters faced, Zborowski allowed six hits and two runs, while striking out nine.

The Crimson Wave will travel to Florida for a week straight of baseball amongst various competition, beginning with Grand View on Saturday, March 2 at 8:30 AM CT. Later that day, CCSJ will play Valley City State at 11:45 AM CT.
