Busse, Vinatieri earn MSFL prestigious awards; 18 players receive All-Conference recognition
Whiting, IN – The Calumet College of St. Joseph Sprint Football team earned two of the Midwest Sprint Football League's most prestigious awards, along with 17 all-conference accolades on Monday when the postseason honors were announced.
Senior linebacker Trevor Busse was acknowledged for the second consecutive year as the Defensive Player of the Year in the MSFL. The Knox, Indiana native was crowned the 2025 MSFL Defensive Player of the Year after recording 69 total tackles, in eight games played. He also had six tackles for a loss, two sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and two pass break ups. Busse leaves his legacy at CCSJ as the leading tackler in the MSFL with 258 career tackles. He's also a three-time all-conference player, a two-time MSFL Defensive Player of the Year recipient and a two-time MSFL Champion.
Sophomore kicker Jeau Vinatieri was acknowledged as the 2025 MSFL Special Teams Player of the Year. As a Collegiate Sprint Football League Hub All-American in 2024, Vinatieri only strengthened his sprint football resume by recording the longest field goal made in MSFL history this season. In 2025, Vinatieri converted 6-of-9 field goals, including the record setting 48-yard field goal. He went 22-for-26 on PATs, finishing second on the team with 40 points. As a punter, he averaged 39.7 yards per kick and during kickoffs, he sent 43 of them for a total of 2,239 yards, an average of 52.1 yards per kickoff. Vinatieri was also honored twice this season as the MSFL Special Teams Player of the Week.
Along with Busse and Vinatieri, junior wide receiver Kaydarious Jones, senior wide receiver Nino Barbosa, junior running back Jamall Warnell, senior offensive lineman Jose Cortes, senior linebacker Jared Cuevas Cottrell, senior safety Quindarius Davis, senior linebacker Joshua Tejeda, senior defensive back Daymon Johnson, sophomore defensive back Elijah Tyson and junior defensive end Robinson Hale received first-team all-conference honors.
Junior offensive lineman David Escobar, senior offensive lineman George Montes, junior wide receiver Tre Simmons, senior defensive lineman Tony Madrueno and senior linebacker Alexander Dellaechaie received second-team all-conference honors.
Keenan Miller received an all-conference honorable mention on defense and both John Lamere and Zachary Bloom were recognized as members of the 2025 MSFL Champion of Character team as well.
Kaydarious Jones (First Team All-Conference Offense) – Jones received all-conference honors for contributing in multiple ways for the Crimson Wave offense. Jones had 18 catches for 191 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for a team-high 328 yards this season on 39 carries. He also had the second-most yards on kick returns with 119 yards on four opportunities.
Nino Barbosa (First Team All-Conference Offense) – Barbosa, who went from quarterback last season to playing multiple positions this season, had a stellar year earning him first-team all-conference honors again. Lined up in the backfield, Barbosa rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns. As a receiver, he had 234 yards on 21 receptions for four touchdowns. For special teams, Barbosa had six kick returns for 194 yards and seven punt returns for 32 yards. His average of 32.3 yards per kick return was the highest average of anyone on the team.
Jamall Warnell (First Team All-Conference Offense) – Warnell led the CCSJ rushing attack for the past two seasons, earning his second consecutive first-team all-conference honors. This season he rushed for 297 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Jose Cortes (First Team All-Conference Offense) – The senior lineman, earning first-team all-conference honors for the second year in a row, helped anchor an offense that was third amongst the MSFL in both total rush yards and rush yards per game. The Crimson Wave finished first in rushing first downs with 80 and finished second in rushing touchdowns with 16.
Jared Cuevas Cottrell (First Team All-Conference Defense) – Cuevas Cottrell was second on the team with 5.5 tackles per game. He accumulated 44 total tackles this season, 24 of them solo, in eight games played. He also had five tackles for a loss, one sack, two interceptions and one pass break up.
Quindarius Davis (First Team All-Conference Defense) – Davis earned his third consecutive first-team all-conference honors. He had six pass break ups this season, along with 26 total tackles, 22 solo. He also had two tackles for a loss of 10 yards, along with one forced fumble and two interceptions.
Joshua Tejeda (First Team All-Conference Defense) – Tejeda had the fifth-most tackles on the team this season with 32. 19 of his 32 total tackles were solo. He also had 9.5 tackles for a loss of 26 yards, along with one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.
Daymon Johnson (First Team All-Conference Defense) – Two years ago, Johnson was an honorable mention on defense and now he has made first-team all-conference for the second year in a row. He had 33 tackles this season, 21 of them solo, along with 2.5 tackles for a loss, three interceptions and six pass break ups.
Elijah Tyson (First Team All-Conference Defense) – Only two sophomores from the Crimson Wave received all-conference recognition, Vinatieri and Tyson. Tyson had a team-high five interceptions and six pass break ups on the season. One of his interceptions he returned for a 100-yard touchdown, recording the longest single interception return for a touchdown in the MSFL.
Robinson Hale (First Team All-Conference Defense) – Hale received first-team honors for the second consecutive year with 21 tackles, 12 of them solo. He also had three tackles for a loss of 17 yards and two pass break ups.
David Escobar (Second Team All-Conference Offense) – The junior lineman earned his second consecutive year of all-conference honors as he helped anchor an offense that was third amongst the MSFL in both total rush yards and rush yards per game. The Crimson Wave finished first in rushing first downs with 80 and finished second in rushing touchdowns with 16.
George Montes (Second Team All-Conference Offense) – The senior lineman earned his second consecutive year of all-conference honors as he helped lead an offense that was third amongst the MSFL in both total rush yards and rush yards per game. The Crimson Wave finished first in rushing first downs with 80 and finished second in rushing touchdowns with 16.
Tre Simmons (Second Team All-Conference Offense) – Simmons earned second-team all-conference honors for the second consecutive year. He had 14 receptions for 167 yards and three touchdowns on the season.
Tony Madrueno (Second Team All-Conference Defense) – Madrueno has been a first-team and second-team all-conference representative in the past. This season he had 16 total tackles, five solo, in eight games played. 2.5 of his tackles were for a loss of three yards, and he also had one sack and one fumble recovery.
Alexander Dellaechaie (Second Team All-Conference Defense) – Dellaechaie is a 2x first-team all-conference recipient. This year he took home second-team honors as he posted 35 total tackles this season, 17 solo, in seven games played. He also had 5.5 tackles for a loss, along with 4.5 sacks and two pass break ups.
Our Champions of Character Team honors the top players for each league member who excelled this season on the field, in the classroom and in the community. For CCSJ, John Lamere and Zachary Bloom were selected to represent the Crimson Wave.
