The Crimson Wave Men's Basketball team hosted University of St. Francis on Wednesday evening for the first Home game of the season, and in a thrilling last second shot beat the Fighting Saints 59-58.
The Crimson Wave had a slow start in the beginning of the first half, but once getting into a rhythm, stayed neck and neck with St. Francis. CCSJ was able to pull ahead and finish the first half leading the Fighting Saints 27-22, shooting 38.7% field goals and 50% from the 3-point range and in free throws.
In the second half, the Crimson Wave continued to fight to keep their lead over USF until fouls and free throws gave the Fighting Saints their opportunity to close the gap. With less than 10 seconds left on the clock, USF made two free throws to have a two-point lead over the Crimson Wave. CCSJ threw the ball in bounds, made a pass to Senior transfer Wyatt Hughes, who dribbled the ball down the court with the clock ticking down and stopped steps behind the arc to shoot and score the game winning 3-point bucket.
Leaders for the Crimson Wave were Noel Mpie with 12 points, Malik Miller with 6 assists, and Wyatt Hughes with 11 rebounds. The team shot 39% in total field goals, 38.5% from the 3-point line, and 61.5% in their free throws.
The Crimson Wave Men's Basketball team are now 1-0 in CCAC and 2-2 in regular season play. CCSJ plays next at Trinity Christian on Saturday, November 13th at 3 PM.
