How it Happened
The mentality of the Crimson Wave coming into this one was to put an end to its seven-game losing streak and earn its first conference win of the season. CCSJ (3-8, 1-4 CCAC) was successful in its gameplan as you could see the focus from the team from tipoff.
Calumet College got off to a hot start, making five of its first nine shots, taking a 14-2 lead five minutes into the game. The electrifying start began with back-to-back 3-pointers from Joshua Morris, five fast break points from Devan Nichols and a deep 3-pointer from Reginald Loury.
As time went on, the Crimson Wave continued to remain hot as their lead expanded to 22 with four minutes remaining in the first half. CCSJ had one of its best starts of the season in this one as they had a commanding 25-point lead heading into halftime and made 10 3-pointers in the process.
Not only was Calumet College in unison offensively dishing out 11 assists and shooting 55 percent (18-of-33) from the field in the first half, but defensively they were making their mark grabbing 15 defensive rebounds and forcing Holy Cross to commit seven turnovers.
In the second half the rout would continue as the Crimson Wave expanded their lead to as much as 37. CCSJ wouldn't allow Holy Cross to score any points on second chance opportunities and limited the Saints to just four points off turnovers.
Calumet College had one of its best offensive performances of the season going 34-of-66 (52 percent) from the field, its second-best this year, and 12-of-30 (40 percent) from behind the arc, its fifth-best this year.
