Davis career-high 33 not enough as Wave fall to Holy Cross 94-84
Whiting, IN – The Calumet College of St. Joseph men;s basketball team lost by 10 at home to Holy Cross 94-84 on Wednesday evening. The Wave split the regular season series with the Saints 1-1, as CCSJ beat Holy Cross earlier in the season 82-71 on November 22.
How it Happened
The game began with junior guard Kyrin Dock dishing out three consecutive assists 'o help the Wave get off to a 7-2 lead. Dock found J.Caleb Slawinski in the post on the first possession, followed by Tylon Toliver for a transition layup. He then found an open Malik Petty on the left wing for the first 3-pointer of the game.
Toliver continued to be aggressive on the offensive end, scoring eight points in the opening 10 minutes.
Toliver wasn't the only player finding his rhythm offensively for CCSJ (10-9, 6-6) as senior guard Quindarius Davis checked into the game and went 5-for-5 from 3-point range in a matter of six minutes. He followed up his hot shooting with a floater off the backboard to give the Wave a 13-point lead.
Holy Cross (7-12, 3-9) would follow up CCSJ's hot shooting with a 14-0 unanswered run to take their first lead of the afternoon. The Saints would take a four-point lead heading into halftime, shooting 19-of-37 (51.4 percent) from the field.
The Wave shot 17-of-36 (47.2 percent) from the field and made six 3-pointers in the first half.
To start the second half, it was Slawinski again getting an easy two points in the post. The senior had 10 points and 6 rebounds in the first half, but three fouls as well.
Slawinski unfortunately picked up his fourth foul 14:33 remaining, with the Wave trailing by eight.
As CCSJ played with an undersized lineup, Holy Cross maintained their lead throughout the second half. CCSJ also couldn't find that same success from behind the arc like they did in the first half, shooting 1-for-8 on 3-pointers in the second half.
Slawinski also fouled out late in the game, for the second time this season.
The loss put the Crimson Wave tied with Indiana University Northwest for the sixth best record in the conference at 6-6.
