Men's Bowling season comes to an end, Chin and Dobran advance to Singles Championships
Addison, IL - The Calumet College Men's Bowlers competed in the Addison, Illinois USBC Intercollegiate Singles Sectional on March 11th with 276 players and where 8 of those would advance to the championship on April 18th and 19th at Stardust Bowl in Addison, and the Team Sectionals on March 12th &13th. The Intercollegiate Bowling Singles Championship is made up of 4 sectional events around the country with a goal of advancing 24 singles players to the Championship finals. The Intercollegiate Singles Champ from last season was Crimson Wave's Petey Vergos, who was also the first National Champion in the history of CCSJ's program. Vergos was looking for a chance to defend his title, but going into the final game Daniel Chin was doing well in 2nd place and Dylan Dobran was sitting at 8th place with Vergos in 9th. Chin and Dobran would bowl well and retain their positions while Vergos struggled in the last game and finished in 26th place. With solid last games, Jakob Sisk would move up to and finish in 15th place and Stefano Cittadino in 20th place. Chin (2nd place) and Dobran (8th place) made the top 8 cut and will continue their season at the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships in April in Addison, IL.
With this strong of a showing in singles, Coach Kubacki felt very good about extending the CCSJ Men's Bowling record streak of advancing to the Sweet 16 of the Intercollegiate Team competition to 14 seasons in a row. However, this would be the year the streak would come to an end. The Crimson Wave Men's team would compete hard in all 64 baker games in this competition but seemed to come up empty no matter what was tried. Coach Kubacki and Krucek continued to make adjustments to strategy but the pins would not cooperate as our Men's team finished a heartbreaking 7th place, ending their 2021-22 season.
Chin and Dobran have continued preparing for the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships that will begin on Monday, April 18th and 19th at Stardust Bowl in Addison, IL.
