CCSJ Men's Bowling wins Storm Baker Challenge for third year in a row
The CCSJ Men's Bowling team defended its title at the 18th Annual Storm Baker Challenge with a 3-1 victory over St. Francis in the championship round on Sunday, January 12.
Addison, IL – The Calumet College of St. Joseph men's bowling team returned to Addison for the 18th Annual Storm Baker Challenge and the varsity team claimed first-place for the third year in a row.
The two-day event consisted of qualifying baker games, bowled on both Saturday, January 11 and Sunday, January 12.
On Saturday, CCSJ competed in six sets of baker games. Tied after set five with St. Francis, the Crimson Wave finished Day 1 in second place amongst 11 teams. CCSJ finished Day 1 with an overall total of 4739, 91 pins behind first place St. Francis with an overall total of 4830.
CCSJ would remain in 2nd following the four sets of baker games on Sunday, finishing with an overall total score of 7904, just 34 pins behind No. 1-seeded St. Francis.
As the No. 2 seed in the varsity bracket, the Wave faced No. 3-seeded Judson in the semifinal round. With each round being a best of five series, CCSJ took down Judson 3-1 to advance to the championship round.
The Crimson Wave faced the team they had chased in baker play all day Saturday and early Sunday, No. 1-seeded St. Francis in the championship. CCSJ was able to come out on top, winning this best of five series 3-1 as well, to claim first-place at the Storm Baker Challenge for the third year in a row.
The JV team also had a great outing, finishing Saturday's baker games in 1st with an overall total of 4636. On Sunday after four baker games, they fell to the No. 2 seed and trailed St. Francis JV team by 30 pins.
CCSJ's JV team would fall to St. Francis in the JV Championship.
