CCSJ Men's Bowling finishes 7th in Las Vegas Glenn Carlson Invitational
Las Vegas, NV – The Calumet College of St. Joseph men's bowling team traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada for their four-day bowling competition at the South Point Bowling Plaza that features some of the top-ranked teams in the country. On December 18-19, CCSJ competed in the Glenn Carlson Invitational. They would play eight qualifying games over the course of two days to determine bracket play.
After the five games on Day 1 of the invitational, the Crimson Wave were in a great spot sitting in 7th place with a total score of 5214. Some standout performances from both freshman Donald Simpkins III and junior Nathaniel Trentler helped CCSJ hold a top-10 spot.
Simpkins was in 16th place individually after the five qualifying games, recording a total score of 1121, an average of 224.2. Trentler sat at 25th place after Day 1, with a total score of 1087, an average of 217.4.
After Day 2's three qualifying games which began at 8:00 a.m. PST (Pacific Standard Time), CCSJ would place 9th. They struggled in their first game of the day but made up ground in the final two. The Crimson Wave's total score was 8264, moving them onto bracket play.
In the first round of the single elimination tournament, 9-seeded CCSJ would face 8-seed Saint Xavier. The Crimson Wave found themselves on the brink of elimination trailing two games to one, before winning the final two games to win the five-game series.
In the second round, CCSJ faced the No. 1-seed Mount Mercy. The Crimson Wave would fall to 3-1 to Mount Mercy, who eventually went on and won the championship.
Simpkins had the highest finish of any Crimson Wave bowler as he finished 9th individually amongst 498 bowlers with a score of 1776, an average of 222 through eight games. He also had the highest score for any freshman competing in this tournament.
Trentler maintained his top-25 pace after Day 1 as he finished 24th with a score of 1724, an average of 215.5 through eight games.
Mason Doan tied for 50th place individually with a score of 1655, an average of 206.9 through eight games. Alex Linnenbrink wasn't far behind as he came in 61st place with a score of 1628, an average of 203.5.
