Griffith earns All-Tournament Team Honors; CCSJ Men's Bowling finish 4th at Hoosier Classic
The CCSJ men's bowling team placed 4th at the 2026 57th Annual Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic on Sunday, February 15 at the Royal Pin - Western.
Indianapolis, IN – The Calumet College of St. Joseph men's bowling team competed in the 2026 57th Annual Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic on both Saturday, February 14 and Sunday, February 15 at the Royal Pin – Western bowling alley.
CCSJ finished the weekend in 4th place, its last Tier 1 event of the season, amongst a pool consisting of 78 different teams.
The Crimson Wave began the Hoosier Classic playing regular team games starting at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. After game 1, CCSJ's score didn't scratch the top 25. After stellar performances throughout the remainder of the morning, the Crimson Wave found themselves in third place. As they climbed 25 spots, CCSJ finished Day 1 with a total pin count of 5444, just 38 pins behind top-seeded Wichita State University.
On Sunday morning, 15 baker games were played to determine the top 8 teams advancing to match play. By the afternoon, CCSJ was the fourth seed heading into match play, finishing with a qualifying total pin count of 8291.
As the No. 4-seed, the Crimson Wave faced No. 5-seed Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in the first round. CCSJ beat SCAD-Savannah in the opening round, winning its first two games in a best of three series. In the Final Four, the Crimson Wave fell to the eventual tournament champion Webber International 2-0.
Individually, over 1300 men bowlers competed in the Hoosier Classic and junior Bryant Griffith was recognized as an all-tournament team member. Griffith finished 4th overall with an individual total of 1177, which is an average tournament score of 235.4.
Freshman Donald Simpkins III had a strong outing finishing 14th overall with an individual total of 1137, an average tournament score of 227.4.
Last season as a team, CCSJ finished 13th at the Hoosier Classic, which was also their final competition before the United States Bowling Congress Collegiate Intercollegiate Sectional. With this year's top 5 finish and being ranked in the top 10 by the USBC for the second consecutive, the Crimson Wave are now looking forward to the post season.
