Men's Soccer Throttle Andrews (Mich.)

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. - Calumet College of Saint Joseph men's soccer saw its offense explode on Tuesday night, as the Crimson Wave got back to .500 on the year with a dominating performance in a 9-2 victory over Andrews (Mich.).
CCSJ (2-2) more than doubled its best offensive output of 2016 in this lone evening contest, as six starters tallied netted shots and a total of eight players registered a goal.
"I was glad to see us get off to a quick start after a slow first half last time out," head coach Brendan Roth said." We were also able to see some new guys in certain areas, and rotate some players to get new looks for this weekend.
We will get back to work tomorrow and sharpen up on a few things in order to be ready for Friday night."
Regan Smith led the charge with a hat trick of scores on the day, and got the Crimson Wave on the board in less than a minute into the action to take an early 1-0 lead. Smith would double CCSJ's advantage six minutes later. Andrews would respond in the 17th minute, but two more made shots before half (Manny Rios and Mitch Osmond) gave the visitors a 4-1 advantage at the break.
The Cardinals would strike first out of the locker room to get within two, but the Crimson Wave drowned out any hope of Andrews coming back by reeling off five-straight goals to cruise to victory on the road.
Axel Moreno would score his first goal as a member of CCSJ in his first outing at the 67:59 mark, and 26 seconds later, Nick Barango collected his first of two-consecutive scores. Smith (84th minute) and Eduardo Navarro (88th minute) both also got more into the action to wrap up the evening.
CCSJ gets back on the field this Friday night at home against Union (Ky.). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
