Davis Competes At Second Straight Indoor Nationals
BROOKINGS, S.D. – For the second straight year, Calumet College of St. Joseph men's field athlete Robert Davis (JR/Baton Rouge, La.) headed west to compete at the NAIA Indoor National Championships, this time held on the campus of South Dakota State University. Unfortunately, he could not come close to his qualifying jump distance, but still gained more experience moving forward.
Davis, a junior from Baton Rouge, La., was the lone competitor at indoor nationals, a year after the Crimson Wave sent three athletes to participate in four events. The field of athletes was substantially harder this year, needing to jump almost one full meter over the 6.97 qualifying standard to take home the national championship. Davis lined up for his first attempt and came back with a result of 6.33 meters. His second jump of 6.00m left him with just one attempt left to improve his position in the standings. It was not to be however, as he failed to complete a successful jump, ending his indoor season. The mark of 6.33m was good enough for 24th place in a 28 competitor field.
Davis will look to make his first NAIA Outdoor Nationals meet when both track and field teams resume competition at the end of this month.
