Davis Qualifies for NAIA National Championships
The Crimson Wave track and field teams competed at the DePauw University Outdoor Invitational in Greencastle, IN where Robert Davis headlined the meet for CCSJ.
Davis qualified for the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the Long Jump with a mark of 7.15m.
"Robert Davis' feat on Saturday at DePauw University was nothing short of what he is capable of doing every time he approaches the long jump pit. At times his approach and flight tend to be inconsistent but when he is on and he gets fired up, nothing stands in the way of him posting the results like he did Saturday. I knew, and he knew, as soon as he left the board that it was a good one. Eclipsing the 7 Meter mark is something we have been working at and something that has eluded him since freshman year, so hitting 7.13 meters (24'-3") was a remarkable jump for him. He works very hard at his craft and he is a great student of the sport as well as his event so attaining this was bound to happen, but now the task is how to stay here and move on to Nationals and stay relaxed and focused because he is capable of attaining All American status, this is how good he really can be. The next step is now to focus on the triple jump which may be a stretch to qualify for Nationals, but if anyone can figure out a way to get this done, it's Robert Davis," said Coach Rick Torres.
Davis will compete in the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Gulf Shores, AL on May 23-25 at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium as he looks to gain All-American status.
