Men’s Volleyball win streak comes to an end
Whiting, IN - The Calumet College Men's Volleyball team hosted #8 St. Xavier on Thursday for their last regular-season home match of the season. The Crimson Wave had won 10 straight games and were coming off a big 3-0 win over St. Ambrose on Tuesday. After a rough first set loss of 25-14, the Crimson Wave made a strong comeback in the second and third sets but were just short, losing to St. Xavier 3-0.
The Crimson Wave struggled in the first set as they couldn't quite get going through the tough St. Xavier defense. The Cougars had several service streaks that gave them enough of a lead to win the set 25-14. In the second set, the Crimson Wave started off slow and fell behind as far as 20-12, but a kill by Francis Hauze gave CCSJ the ball and started a 7 serve streak for Hauze as the Crimson Wave tied the set 20-20. From there, each team had several serves in a row scoring several points, but St. Xavier finished strong to extend their lead to 27-25. In the final set, the Crimson Wave and Cougars went point-for-point then each with several service streaks to take a lead and then tie the set. In the end, it was St. Xavier that controlled the ball long enough to take a strong lead and win the final set 25-19, and secure their 3-0 win.
Hauze led the Crimson Wave with 11 kills, 4 service aces, and 3 blocks. Pedro Castillo was close behind with 9 kills and 2 blocks. Jacob Moen had a strong 23 assists with 2 digs.
The Crimson Wave's final regular-season CCAC match is on Thursday at Judson University at 7:00 PM.
