Fowler Ends Season at NAIA Championships
Crimson Wave wrestler Nick Fowler (JR/Gary, Ind.) finished his season at the NAIA National Wrestling Championships after winning the conference tournament in the 285lb weight class.
Seeded 10thoverall in the 285lb bracket, Fowler defeated the seventh seeded Aaron Johnson of the Cumberland's 4-1 in overtime advancing him to the quarter-finals match.
The quarter-finals match saw Fowler's first loss of the tournament as he dropped a closely fought match to Life University's Brandon Hill 3-2. This loss moved him to the consolation bracket. Fowler would lose his first match in the bracket to the fourth seed Quandre Chisolm of the Cumberland's 3-2 to end his run for All-American status.
Said Coach Maldonado, "Nick gained valuable experience this year at Nationals and fell just short of his goal to become an All American. He competed with the best in the country and he was in position to win each match. Next year I am confident he will find ways to win those close matches and achieve his goal of All-American status."
