SOUTH BEND, Ind. - After a two-week absence from competition, the Calumet College of St. Joseph cross country teams traveled to South Bend to participate in the National Catholic Invitational hosted by NCAA Division I University of Notre Dame.
"It was humid today," head coach Rick Torres said. "We trained through the meet to focus on next week at the Brisman-Lundeen Invitational. The times weren't as fast as we would like, but we left accomplished on both sides.
"Despite the heavy legs after a great week of training, we look forward to our next outing."
Twenty-eight men's squads toed the line for the five mile run that was completed on Friday afternoon, with the Crimson Wave coming in 22nd-place with a cumulative finish of 2:29:17.
Individually, Roger Malonda-Pedros paced CCSJ with a 28:24.2 time, which was good enough for an 83rd-place finish out of 200 runners. Matt King was second across the line for the Crimson Wave at 29:09.1. Deonta Pittman (29:47.2), Miguel Flores (29:50.0) and Robert Davis (32:06.4) rounded out the top five.
Next up on the trail is a trip to Rock Island, Ill., for the Brisman-Lundeen Invitational on Sept. 23 with race festivities beginning at 5 p.m.
