Strong Results Pace First Crimson Wave Meet
The Crimson Wave Cross Country teams started the season with great efforts, as eight athletes recorded personal bests at the Saints Twilight Invitational hosted by the University of St. Francis, held at Channahan Park in Joliet, Ill.
The Wave had to compete with an incomplete team on the women's side but Sophomore Kellyn Vale and Freshman Grace Dwyer both recorded personal bests covering the 5K course in respective times of 20:14 and 20:17. Both ran side by side for the entire 5000 meters before Vale threw down a put the peddle down with 300 meters to go. Sophomore Carly Kohout also competed and ran a time of 24:52.
On the men's side, Sophomore Robert Davis led a tight group of three over 5000 meters before Senior Matt King delivered his signature kick to blaze through the chute in a time of 16:35. Davis followed closely in 16:38, and Senior Deonta Pittman was the number three man in with a time of 16:48. All three ran personal bests. Junior Luis Munoz also ran a personal best 5K as he covered the quick course in 17:35, good enough for 43rd place. Sophomore Anthony DelValle, running in his first collegiate race, closed out Crimson Wave scoring by placing 48th in a time of 17:48. Gary West Side product and Sophomore Rakeem Bluitt, also competing in his first collegiate race, ran a personal best of 18:19.
