CCSJ falls to Governors State, 39-69
Saturday, the Crimson Wave Women's Basketball team (0-4) traveled to Governors State (4-2) for their fourth CCAC game of the season. Governors State proved to be a tough opponent for the Crimson Wave, defeating CCSJ 69-39, but the Crimson Wave were able to hold their own as best they could.
In the 1st Quarter, the Crimson Wave battled to keep control of the ball and held the Jaguars from scoring 20 points in the first 10 minutes, holding Governors State to 18-5. In the 2nd Quarter, Governors State was able to pull ahead of the Crimson Wave, scoring 22 points and increasing their lead over the Crimson Wave to 24 points with a half-time score of 40-16. The 3rd Quarter was a better 10 minutes for CCSJ, scoring 11 points and keeping the Jaguars to only 18 points, and going into the final quarter down 58-27. In the 4th Quarter, CCSJ was able to outscore the Jaguars for the quarter but were unable to close the points gap, falling to Governors State 69-39.
The Crimson Wave shot 22% in Total Field Goals, 14% from the 3-point line, and 60% from the free-throw line. CCSJ's leaders were Shakeana Clark with 18 points, Zariah Frierson with 13 points, Le'Rona Shelby with 11 rebounds, and Markeysha Coleman with 4 assists.
The Crimson Wave plays next on Tuesday, November 23rd at the Rittenmeyer Center against St. Ambrose before a brief Thanksgiving break.
