Jayonna Smith named CCAC Defensive Player of the Week
Smith earns first women's basketball weekly honors for 2025-26 season.
Chicago, IL – Congratulations to junior Jayonna Smith from Chicago, Illinois on being named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week. Tuesday afternoon, the league office announced that Smith was the recipient of the first women's basketball weekly honor for the 2025-26 season.
In the two games last week for the Crimson Wave, Smith recorded a total of 14 steals, eight defensive rebounds and four blocks that earned her this recognition.
CCSJ won its first game of the season over Grace Christian 67-35 on Thursday, October 30 and Smith had a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds, along with eight steals, four assists and two blocks. She closed out the week with 15 points, six steals, four rebounds, three assists and another two blocks in a loss to IU Kokomo on Saturday, November 1.
The Crimson Wave are now off to a 1-2 record to start the season and will play again on Friday, November 14 as they host Hannibal-LaGrange from Missouri. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
