Askew Lead Crimson Wave Charge At CCAC Championships
JOLIET, Ill. – The 2018 CCAC Outdoor Track and Field season came to a close this past Friday and Saturday at the conference championships, hosted by the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. While the women's team saw improvements in results from the previous season, Olivia Askew (SR/Munster, Ind.) was once again her dominate self, earning yet another achievement to add to her already stellar career.
RESULTS
Women's Team: 4th out of 10
TOP FEMALE ATHLETE
Olivia Askew came into the meet as the top seed in the 200-meter dash and held the second spot in the 100-meter. She did not disappoint. While she finished at the back of the pack in seventh place during the 100, the senior blew her competition away in the 200 with a first place time of 25.15, four tenths of a second better than her next competitor. Askew was even more impressive in the 400-meter dash, finishing the race in the top spot with the CCSJ record time of 57.56, almost a full second faster than her nearest competitor. Her performance here, factored in with third place team finish in the 400x100 relay and the fourth place team placing in the 4x400 version, was good enough to earn her the title of Female Track Athlete of the Meet.
RECORDS BROKEN
Harley Sutton (JR/Hobart, Ind.) came in third during the high jump, but set a school record with a height of 5.50 meters.
Arianna Canales (FR/Chicago, Ill.) finished the Race Walk in a time of 51:33.56, breaking the school record with her seventh place finish.
A relay school record was set in the 4x400 meter discipline. Olivia Askew, Ciara Carmichael (SR/Highland, Ind.), Zola Carter (SO/Munster, Ind.), and Kellyn Vale (SO/Crown Point, Ind.) finished fourth with a time of 4:10.03.
The 4x800 meter relay team of Vale, Carmichael, Grace Dwyer (FR/Lake Station, Ind.), and Hannah Carr (JR/White Pigeon, Mich.) took home the school's top stop with a combined time of 10:30.88.
The total amount of team points at the meet (55) was the most points in the programs history at one meet.
