Ladies Drop Match to RedHawks
The Crimson Wave women's volleyball team hosted the Indiana University Northwest RedHawks tonight in their first home conference match of the season.
CCSJ came out flat in the first set of the night falling behind early 13-3 before making a small rally behind two Makayla Watt kills and one each from Breonn Green (JR/Hammond, Ind.) and Sincere Northern (JR/Indianapolis, Ind.) to come within 7. Time was night on the Wave's side as IUN closed out the set 25-14.
Set two of the night started as a back and forth and match with CCSJ trailing most of the set until three straight kills from Watts and Northern to tie the set at 19. After, a set of errors from each side CCSJ took a 24-21 lead behind an ace from Watts and Kill by Northern.
Back-to-back CCSJ errors and an ace brought the RedHawks back in the set making the score 24 a piece. A kill by Northern on a Rebecca Larios (JR/Whiting, Ind.) assist gave the Crimson Wave a one-point lead before giving the set to IUN 29-27.
After the strong second set effort to try to swing the momentum the Crimson Wave ran out of steam giving the third set to IUN 25-21 and the match 3-0.
"Playing a team that is in close proximity always presents a different vibe in the gym. many of the players on both teams know each other, may have even played together. it's fun to play in a rivalry atmosphere." Said Coach Sean McMorrow
Watts ended the night with 11 kills on 35 attempts with Northern adding 7 and Green 5 respectively. Green also tallied 3 blocks for CCSJ. Jade Green (SO/Hammond, Ind.) led the defense with 20 digs from the libero position while Larios ended the night posting 20 assists.
The Crimson Wave now 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the CCAC will host Judson University on Thursday night at 7:00 pm in their second conference math up of the week.
