Head Coach

Bio

Brian Kim was named the men's and women's head cross country coach on July 8, 2025.

Prior to joining CCSJ, Kim was the boys and girls head cross country and track & field coach at Bishop Noll Institute from 2023-26.

Before that, he was the boys and girls head cross country and track & field coach at Calumet High School from 2018 to 2023.

Kim was also the boys assistant track & field coach at Munster High School from spring of 2017 to the spring of 2018. Prior to that, Kim had his first coaching opportunity at his alma mater Portage High School in 2016 as the boy’s assistant cross country coach.

Throughout his nine years of coaching thus far, Kim has now helped six student-athletes earn first-team all-conference honors, 10 student-athletes have earned second-team all-conference recognition and 19 have qualified for regionals/semi-state in cross country and track & field.

As an athlete, Kim ran for Portage High School before graduating in 2009. He continued to run and eventually trained to compete in marathons throughout his years in college. He even was a Boston Marathon qualifier as he ran 26.2 miles in three hours and 48 seconds. 

Kim earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis in 2014 and his master’s degree in secondary education from Indiana University Northwest in 2025.

In addition to his coaching at the high school level, he has been a teaching since 2017. Kim taught at Hammond High School for one year, Calumet High School for five years and is currently in his third year at Bishop Noll Institute.
