Crimson Wave Men’s Volleyball beats Rio Grande 3-0 Friday
On Day 1 of the Bethel Tournament, the CCSJ men’s volleyball team swept Rio Grande 3-0 on Friday, February 9 at Bethel University in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Mishawaka, IN – On Day 1 of the Bethel Tournament held at Bethel University, CCSJ beat Rio Grande 3-0 on Friday, February 9. As the Crimson Wave improved their record this season to 6-4, this is now the fourth match where the Wave have not allowed their opponent to win one set.
In the first set, Calumet College was trailing by as much as six before scoring seven straight points to take the lead at 15-14. Throughout the stretch, Diego Antunez, Francis Hauze and Gioele Iacono had one kill each while Rio Grande committed three attack errors. With a marginal lead late in the set, CCSJ recorded the last two kills, by Hauze and Daniel Lopez, to close out the set 25-20.
During the second set, both teams went back and forth the opening 14 possessions before the Crimson Wave scored four unanswered to take the advantage. Calumet College eventually extended its lead to seven and won the set 25-18. CCSJ also posted a game-high hitting percentage of .444 in the second set.
In the third set, the Crimson Wave were able to keep a slight lead over Rio Grande that they would manage to hold onto throughout the set. After five consecutive kills assisted by Brayden Richardson, CCSJ would score its final point off a service error by Rio Grande. Calumet College would win the third set 25-19 and earn its fourth sweep of the season.
Daniel Lopez had 10 kills and six digs in the win while Francis Hauze had 10 kills and three digs. Brayden Richardson led the Wave with 38 assists.

CCSJ returns to action Saturday, February 10 for Day of the Bethel Tournament. Crimson Wave will play Lawrence Tech at 2:00 PM and Cumberland at 4:00 PM.
