Crimson Wave Men’s Volleyball split games on Day 2 of Bethel Tournament
On Day 2 of the Bethel Tournament, the CCSJ men’s volleyball team fell to Lawrence Tech in the afternoon 3-1, but swept Cumberland in the evening 3-0 on Saturday, February 10.

Mishawaka, IN – On Day 2 of the Bethel Tournament held at Bethel University, CCSJ had two games scheduled, one against Lawrence Tech in the afternoon and one against Cumberland in the evening on Saturday, February 10. Calumet College fell to Lawrence Tech 3-1, before bouncing back and sweeping Cumberland 3-0.
Against Lawrence Tech, the Crimson Wave committed 17 errors in the first two sets that seemed to be pivotal as they lost the first set by four and the second set by five.
In the third set, the Wave were playing from behind just like the first two sets, but managed to put a run together late. Trailing 20-16, CCSJ scored seven straight points to take its first lead of the afternoon since the 2-1 mark in the opening set.
Throughout the run, Francis Hauze had a kill and Gioele Iacono had two blocks. Holding on to the third set win, Iacono along with Agustin Moreno shared the set winning block on the final play.
In the fourth set, Calumet College was playing from behind again and couldn't keep up similar to the first two sets. With a 21-14 lead, three of the final four points by Lawrence Tech were kills to seal the 3-1 win.
When CCSJ played Cumberland in the second game of the day, the Wave played much cleaner only committing four errors per set.
Calumet College held substantial leads in each set, leading by eight in the first set, nine in the second and eight in the third. Not only was the Crimson Wave dominating in each set, but their hitting percentage of .481 in the third set was one of the best of the season thus far. For the game, CCSJ finished with a .364 hitting percentage, which is its best of the season by .10.
Against Lawrence Tech, Daniel Lopez had a team-high 14 kills while Francis Hauze had 13 kills and six digs. Brayden Richardson had 21 assists while Pedro Castillo had 15 assists.
In the win against Cumberland, Daniel Lopez had a game-high 12 kills while Francis Hauze had nine kills. Pedro Castillo led the team with 28 assists and Agustin Moreno added nine digs.
