Crimson Wave falls to Oakland City in three sets
Oakland City, IN – The Calumet College of St. Joseph men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-7, 25-20, 25-16) to Oakland City Friday evening at the Johnson Center in Oakland City, Indiana. The loss dropped the Crimson Wave to 0-6 on the season, while Oakland City improved to 4-2 overall.
How it Happened
In the first set, Reshawn Allen earned the first kill of the game for the Crimson Wave. Unfortunately, the Wave would only get two more kills throughout the remainder of the opening set. CCSJ committed 11 attack errors with only three assists and five digs in set one.
To start the second set, David Navata served an ace on the first play to get the Wave on the board. CCSJ came out much more determined in the second set, as Caimin Harrop-Haywood came away with a kill and Reshawn Allen, along with freshman Logan Krause, shared a block. As the Wave scored its 10th point of the set, Oakland City elected to take its first timeout of the evening.
The Crimson Wave continued to fight throughout the second set, but the Mighty Oaks scored five of the last six points to win set two 25-20.
In the third set CCSJ's passing improved, posting four kills on its first eight points. Two kills and two assists for Navata, along with two kills from Allen. On the other end, Oakland City had another set of 13 kills to put the Wave 25-16.
Crimson Wave Leaders
David Navata had four kills, seven assists and three digs while Reshawn Allen had four kills and four digs. Caimin Harrop-Haywood also had four kills, while Lucas Sanchez Caixeta came away with 10 digs and John Agee posted six assists.
Up Next
The Wave will be back in action Saturday, February 7 as they travel to Owensboro, Kentucky for a doubleheader. They'll play Indiana Tech at 12:00 p.m., followed by Campbellsville at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodward Health and Recreation Center.
