The Crimson Wave Women's Volleyball team hosted Roosevelt University on Monday evening and defeated the Lakers 3-1 for the team's first conference win of the season, and the program's first conference win since 2014.
CCSJ came out strong and energetic in the first set, the Lakers battled back to make it a close set, but the Crimson Wave prevailed to win the set 26-24. Roosevelt was able to come out on top in the second set, 25-18, to force a fourth set, but the Crimson Wave shut down the Laker's momentum going into the third set and defeated Roosevelt 25-13. The fourth set was a battle back and forth between the two teams, and as the teams were tied 22-22, CCSJ was able to come ahead and win 25-23 to secure their first conference win in 7 years. Diana Ortuno led the night with 17 kills, Rebecca Larios with 21 assists, Maria Elena Castorena with 23 digs, and Makayla Watts with 3 blocks.
The Crimson Wave have a quick turnaround before hosting IU South Bend on Tuesday at 7 PM.
